Reading a Structural Processing Requirement for the Voortman V807

A profile request is checked size first, then thickness, then the preparation. Knowing which figure stops the job explains the questions that come back.

KorFab Marketing Team, Editorial team

A structural request is read in a fixed order, and the order explains why some requests are quoted the same day and others come back with questions. Four checks, applied to each member.

First the profile size

Height from 1/2 in to 18 in and width from 2 3/4 in to 41 in. A member outside the envelope does not run on this line, and it is better to establish that before discussing end preparation. The profile types the line handles are I and H sections, channel, square and rectangular tube, angle and T profile.

Then the thickness

Material thickness from 1/8 in to 3 1/8 in. Within that, the pierce capacity is 1 1/2 in, and anything thicker is edge started. Edge starting changes how the cut begins rather than whether it can be made, but it is a detail worth knowing exists when a heavy section is being quoted.

Weight is a separate limit from thickness. The line carries material at up to 274 lb per foot and a maximum total material load of 16,500 lb, so a very heavy section over a long length is a handling question as much as a cutting one.

Then the length

Full 60 ft material is normal, and the line can process up to 70 ft. A member inside that is routine. A member beyond it is not cut down quietly; the request comes back to be resolved.

Then the preparation

This is where most of the value sits and most of the missing information lives.

  • Copes, and which ends carry them.
  • Bevels for weld preparation, with the angle, and whether the bevel runs the full edge or part of it. Bevel detail is confirmed per connection at quote.
  • Holes, with size, position and pattern, since drilling happens in the same automated setup.
  • Layout marks, part numbers and reference lines, etched in the same program as the cut.

What the order tells you

If a request is missing cope detail, the review asks for it. If a request is missing a section size, the review cannot start, because the first check has nothing to test. That difference is worth knowing when building a package: what to include in a structural profile cutting package sets out the member schedule format that answers the first three checks before anyone reads the fourth.

One boundary belongs on the same page. KorFab cuts, copes, bevels, drills and marks profiles and fabricates the assembly. It does not erect or install structural work on site.
