When Phoenix Children's Hospital set out to refurbish the exterior of its parking garage, the goal wasn't just to cover up utility infrastructure — it was to make a community landmark feel more welcoming to the children and families who depend on it every day.
KorFab was selected to fabricate the custom decorative paneling solution, working alongside general contractor DPR and installer True Metal Solutions to deliver a complex, fully custom aluminum panel system — on time, on spec, and on budget.
The Challenge
The hospital needed a paneling solution that was inviting rather than institutional, dimensionally custom to fit the curved parking garage structure, and built to be maintenance-free for decades. Standard off-the-shelf solutions weren't going to cut it — literally or figuratively.
Every one of the 400+ panels required a slightly different size and unique mounting components to follow the curvature of the structure. Engineering requirements and on-site safety concerns added further constraints to material selection and edge finishing.
By the Numbers
- 400+ custom panels fabricated
- ~100 panels shipped per week
- 4–5 weeks from startup to completion
What Made It Work
KorFab produced panels in installation order and labeled each one to streamline the contractor's workflow on-site. When panels were occasionally damaged during installation, replacements were fabricated and shipped the same day — keeping the project on schedule without disruption.
"KorFab was more than a fabricator; they were true partners with True Metal Solutions and formed a very good relationship. From the top down, KorFab's team showed true professionalism and cared very much about the quality of the finished work. They are very easy to work with, especially working under high-pressure deadlines." — Kawika G., True Metal Solutions
The result: a unique, attractive exterior that perfectly met the hospital's goals — and left more budget available for other project needs.
